Water and Sewer Bill Information

Water and sewer bills are based on the actual water usage for a given quarter. The water rates are based on the amount of water you use. The more water you use, the higher the rate. Each account has a water meter that measures usage.

A portion of the bill includes water and sewer service charges. Each residential and commercial property is assessed a number of units. A single-family house is a 1 unit, a double family is 2 units, multiple units are charged per unit. For commercial properties each unit is charged.

As of January 1, 2024, rates for each unit, a customer pays $75.05 for water service charge and $63.50 for sewer service charge for a total of $138.55. Then assessed for water usage and sewer charge. (Water Service $75.05 + Sewer Service $63.50 + $[water usage charge] + $[sewer usage charge] = total bill)

Your water meter is read quarterly.

Bills are mailed by January 1^st, April 1^st, July 1^st and October 1^st.

Customers have until the 15^th of those months to pay the bill. After the 15^th of that month, 18% interest will be charged, it will revert back to the 1^st of that month.

Payments received on delinquent accounts are in the following manner:

Any interest on the account will be removed first.
Oldest delinquency will be removed second.
Subsequent delinquencies

Water/Sewer Account Payments

The Borough accepts the following payment methods checks/money order/cash/credit card. Cash and check/money order payments may be accepted at the Water and Sewer Office located at Borough Hall, 29 Church Street. When paying by check/money order, please make it payable to: Keansburg Water and Sewer Department or KWSD. Credit/Debit Card payments can be made online, using the Secured Payment Button on the Borough Website Home Screen (located in the upper right-hand corner of the page).

Returned Bank Checks

If your check is returned by the bank to us for any reason, there is a $20.00 returned check fee.

Termination of Service

The following is a breakdown of fees that are applied to an account once service has been turned off.

Termination/Resumption for non-payment (Full balance of bill must be satisfied before services will be reinstated, including the below fees):

(Monday-Friday) between 8 AM and 4 PM: $75 for termination
Reinstatement (Monday-Friday) between 8 AM AND 4 PM: $75
Reinstatement After Business Hours is $100

Termination/Resumption at the customer’s request for repair/services:

(Monday-Friday) between 8 AM and 4 PM: $75 for termination
Reinstatement (Monday-Friday) between 8 AM AND 4 PM: $75
Reinstatement After Business Hours is $100

Final Water Readings

At the time of closing (sale of property), a $50 final reading fee will be added to the account.
